Let me just say how PROUD I am of my daughter, Micaela, for working so hard this summer on her Math skills. For those of you who don't know much about fragile x, here's why I am soooo proud.
Girls with fragile x sometimes have a hard time with MATH. Micaela has had a REALLY hard time nailing down her basic math facts. So this summer has been endless math drills and it's sinking in!! We have worked VERY hard every day and I am proud of her for not giving up.

Way to go, Micaela! I had a hard time with math, too.

You are doing a great job Suzanne! Keep up the good work. Even if she never becomes a math wiz, you are teaching her the importance of working hard to achieve something, good work ethic, dilligence, and about not giving up. Those lessons are every bit as important, if not more so, than math. Have a great weekend!

Honestly I know nothing about Fragile X, but I do know what it is like to have a child with challenges and how hard it is for them. It is heartbreaking to know, but doesn't your heart soar when they have success in a difficult area?! Good for Micaela! I'm happy for her, that her hard work is paying off!

Does she work better with strict memorization, or does she have to know the 'why'?

I'm just curious. I always struggled with math as a kid and in college. Now I work in construction and do math every day.

The math finally clicked when I was told "There is no 'why' in math. It just 'is'."

I don't know if that helps or not, but it worked on me.
